Director Mani Ratnam and superstar Rajinikanth amazed fans with their collaboration in 1991 when Thalapathi was released. The movie was received well by the audience and it went on to become a blockbuster. A recent report has revealed that the director-actor combo is all set to reunite after 33 years.
As shared by SIIMA, Mani Ratnam and Rajinikanth are ready to join hands once again to deliver a spectacular project. The film body mentioned that the official announcement will be made on Rajinikanth’s birthday, i.e. on December 12. They shared this news on their X (formerly known as Twitter) and wrote, “33 years in the making! Mani Ratnam and @rajinikanth are back for another iconic collaboration. Stay tuned for the official announcement on Thalaivar’s birthday! #Reunion #ManiRatnam #Rajinikanth #siima.”

While the details of this Mani Ratnam and Rajinikanth project have not been unveiled yet, the news has left fans ecstatic. Fans took to the comments to express their excitement. Reacting to the announcement, one fan said, “Oh man! That’s a terrific combination.” A second fan wrote, “I love this arc of Rajini. Life is a circle—they say as you age, you crave youth more. The stubbornness and adrenaline drive you to prove you can do anything, regardless of age. It’s just how nature works. Released in 1991, Thalapathi also starred Mammootty in the lead role. Then movie adapted the friendship between Karna and Duryodhana from Mahabharata and reimagined it in modern times. Rajinikanth played the role of Surya and represented Karna, while Mammootty represented Duryodhana with his character of Devaraj.
On the work front, Ratnam is currently working on Thug Life which marks his reunion with Kamal Haasan after more than thirty years. Rajinikanth, on the other hand, will be next seen in Vettaiyan where he will be seen alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Fahadh Faasil. The actor also has Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie in line where he will share the screen with Shruti Haasan and Nagarjuna.
