The SC on Friday dismissed a PIL seeking a block on the release of the film. The PIL, filed by lawyer ML Sharma, questioned the Censor Board’s certificate to the film and claimed there could be murders and arson if the film is released.
The threat comes after a day of SC clearing Bhansali's conflict-ridden film Padmaavat and suspending the ban orders by the states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Haryana. An apex court bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, also restrained all states from banning the Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor starrer on Thursday. “Creative freedom, freedom of speech and expression can’t be guillotined... artistic freedom has to be protected,” the SC said.
