Pahlaj Nihalani Backs Curbs on Lipstick Under My Burkha, Cites 'Anti-Corruption Drive'
Nihalani said many such scenes in past escaped the censor’s scissors because of corruption.

Chairman Pahlaj Nihalani has defended Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC)’s refusal to clear Lipstick Under My Burkha saying it was a crackdown on “pornography in feature films" and part of an “anti-corruption drive."

“I have seen the film. It has objectionable scenes," Nihalani told CNN-News18, adding that the Board was following the guidelines of the government.

Declaring he “will not tolerate pornography", the censor board chief said the film produced by Prakash Jha will be released after cutting out objectionable scenes". He did not have any problem with the title of the film.

Nihalani said many such scenes in past escaped the censor’s scissors because of corruption.

“The CBFC is doing its job. We are towards the elimination of corruption," he said.

The Board came under severe flak after it denied a certificate to "Lipstick Under My Burkha", on the grounds that "the story is lady oriented and their fantasy above life. There are continuous sexual scenes, abusive words, audio pornography and a bit sensitive touch about one particular section of society."

Questioning the criticism, Nihalani said, “Public and social media cannot ask us why we can't clear a particular film."

The Board’s letter listing its problems with the film had gone viral a few days ago both due to the reasons cited and for some hilarious typos.
