Global sensation Priyanka Chopra is celebrating her 42nd birthday today, July 18. Priyanka is one of the most successful actresses in Bollywood and after much acclaim, moved to Los Angeles to focus on her Hollywood career. However, Priyanka was not new to America as she used to live there with her relatives as a child. In her 2021 memoir, Unfinished, Priyanka recalled what it was like to live with her Kiran maasi in the US and how it impacted her romantic life.

Priyanka recalled how she would get into trouble with her aunt when she started dating her first boyfriend, Bob (name changed). “Indianapolis is where I met my first boyfriend. His name was Bob and we both attended North Central High School, where he was in tenth grade. Dating him was definitely a hard flex and I fell for him in a big way. The guy played varsity football, had a really high GPA, and was everything high school dreams were made of,” Priyanka wrote in her memoir.

She wrote, “He would walk me to my next class, completely willing, it seemed, to be tardy on my behalf. We got to the point where we’d even hold hands in the hallway. One day he took off the gold chain around his neck and put it around mine. OMG, I thought. We are getting married!”

However, “dating was not allowed” at Priyanka’s aunt’s house. “For a while, I tried to outsmart Agent Kiran. In order to talk to Bob on the phone, I used subterfuge techniques. Bob would get his sister to call my house so that maasi would give the phone to me, thinking the girl on the phone was my friend. Then his sister would hand the phone to Bob. But maasi was too smart for such tricks. One evening she picked up the other landline extension. That was the end of our phone calls”, she wrote.

Priyanka then started attending sex education classes for extra credit, post which Bob would drop her at the nearest bus stop to her home and she would pretend that she was returned on the bus. However, their plan failed after Priyanka’s aunt grew suspicious and followed Priyanka one day. She then started to call Bob home from school while her aunt was still at work. She recalled she once nearly had her “first kiss” when her aunt arrived early one day. Priyanka hid her boyfriend in the closet but in vain. After this, the actress moved to her uncle’s house at Newton, Massachusetts.
