Projects Kalki Koechlin On Why She Isn't Doing More Projects: 'It Is A Conscious Decision'
Kalki Koechlin recently spoke about her decision to take on fewer projects and addressed the biases women encounter in their 40s.

Kalki Koechlin has left a mark in the Bollywood industry with her stellar performances, whether it’s in films like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara or Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, her roles have captivated fans’ attention. After embracing motherhood, Kalki has become more selective about her projects, prioritizing family time. The actress who has not been seen doing a lot of projects of late recently opened up about why she picks lesser projects.

In a conversation with Hindustan Times, the actress said, “Me being selective with my project is a conscious decision. I am extra selective now because I don’t want to be away from my daughter unless I really have something exciting to do.”

Explaining the reasons for taking time to pick a project, the YJHD star added, “The work comes few and far between. Even though you have so many platforms and different mediums, getting a quality piece of work is something that happens once in a while. We have to wait it out. Every script that you get is not going to turn out to be a gem.”

Kalki Koechlin On ‘Prejudices’ Towards Women In 40s

Kalki also spoke about how the film industry gets “harsh” towards women who are over 40 years old. “They get harsh towards women over 40, they don’t even know about such women. They don’t know about what happens to our body, they don’t know about menopause. This is also because we are not writing about it,” the mother of one said.

Kalki also emphasised the need for more women writers and directors in the industry, adding that it will help make female artists feel more empowered.

“More women will feel empowered when there are more women writers and directors because more stories will come to the forefront. The stories about perimenopause, menopause, and the changing lifestyles of women in their later years. There are far few projects, with more projects in Hollywood with stars such as Jodie Foster, Meryl Streep, and Cindy Crawford. These people have such stories to tell and it’s nice to see them doing that. I think we, back in India, need more of those stories,” she continued.

On the work front, Kalki Koechlin was recently seen in the second season of Amazon Prime Video’s popular series Made in Heaven and will be next seen in Emma and Angel.
