Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana is one of the most awaited films. While everyone is eagerly waiting for it, Ramanand Sagar’s grandson, Amrit Sagar has now also reacted to the upcoming film. Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, which was first broadcast in 1987, starred Arun Govil as Lord Ram and is still considered the benchmark for shows and films which are based on Ramayana.
In a recent interview, Amrit Sagar reacted to Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana and urged everyone to make films/shows on the Hindu mythological epic “honestly”. “I feel that Ramayan should be made by everybody, why not? Nobody has a copyright on Ramayan. My only thing with that is do it honestly. Don’t try and make the Ramayan like ‘Now I will make the Ramayan through this person’s perspective, or that person’s perspective. Ramayan is not that. It is the story of Ram, that is why it is titled Ramayan,” he told Indian Express and then added, “Ramleelas have been happening in this country for centuries. And they follow the story completely.”
Interestingly, the comment comes days after Sunil Lehri, who played the role of Laxman in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana also reacted to the Ranbir Kapoor starrer and wondered if people would be able to accept him as Lord Ram, especially after Animal.
“From the poster, I liked his look. It’s very nice and since he’s so smart, he will look perfect in that role. But, I don’t know how much people will accept him as Ram,” Sunil Lahri told Hindustan Times, seemingly referring to the leaked photos. “He has to crush his earlier performances and come out with this. And especially, after doing something like Animal recently, it will be very difficult for people to see him in such an opposite role as Lord Ram,” he added.
Coincidentally, Arun Govil, who played Lord Ram in Sagar’s Ramayan, is also in the film. The actor will be seen playing the role of King Dasharatha. The film also stars Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita and KGF star Yash as Raavan. Reportedly, the makers have also roped in Sunny Deol for the role of Hanuman. However, there is no official confirmation regarding this as of now.
Even though Ramayana’s release date has not been announced as of now, the film is likely to hit theatres in 2027.
