Actor Ranveer Singh, one of the powerhouse actors of Bollywood, has always mentioned in many interviews that he doesn’t come from a film background. However, apart from being related to Sonam Kapoor from his maternal side, Ranveer also had another important person in his family working in films. Ranveer’s paternal grandmother — Chand Burke was an actress.
Chand, after her divorce with film-writer Niranjan in 1954, remarried Sundar Singh Bhavnani, a businessman. Chand and Sundar had two kids together, daughter Tonya and son Jagjit. Jagjit Bhavnani is Ranveer’s father.
Ranveer’s grandmother Chand’s first Bollywood break was in Boot Polish, which released in 1954. The veteran actor Raj Kapoor was the one to give Chand her break in Bollywood. She played a pivotal role of a cruel aunt who tormented her orphaned niece and nephew.
Chand’s career lasted from 1946 to 1969, where she appeared in many Punjabi films as well. She was also known as, ‘Dancing Lily of Punjab’.
Seems like Chand’s grandson is living her dream. Ranveer, who is doing phenomenal work in the Bollywood industry, is married to his Goliyon ki Rasleela -Ram Leelaco-star Deepika Padukone. The two have worked together in big projects such as Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat, both directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Ranveer’s upcoming movie ’83is based on the India’s Cricket team’s 1983 World Cup win. Ranveer is playing Kapil Dev’s character, while the movie will also feature Deepika portraying the role of Kapil Dev’s wife, Romi Bhatia. ’83is set to release on June 4, 2021 in theatres.
The energetic actor has many projects in pipeline, including director Rohit Shetty’s next Cirkus. The film stars Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde, Varun Sharma and Jacqueline Fernandez. The film will also have a special dance number featuring Deepika.
