Sooraj Barjatya’s 1989 hit Maine Pyar Kiya launched Bhagyashree and Salman Khan to fame, and it’s back in theaters now. But behind the scenes, Bhagyashree was battling major personal issues. In a recent interview with HT City, the 55-year-old actress confessed she was in tears during the filming of the iconic song ‘Mere Rang Mein Rangne Wali.’ She revealed she was under intense stress because her parents were against her marriage.
“We were shooting the most romantic song of the film, and it’s uncanny that I was going through so much stress at that time because my parents were against my marriage. After every shot, I would just burst into tears, and Salman and Sooraj ji would try to calm me down,” Bhagyashree admitted.
The chemistry between Bhagyashree and Salman Khan was adored by fans, and they also had a great rapport off-screen. Bhagyashree recalled, “Salman was a brat and a really naughty boy on the sets. He would constantly pull my leg”. She fondly remembered their friendship and added that Salman was very protective, ensuring she was safe and well whenever they were in a crowd.
When Rajshri Productions announced that the romantic musical is all set to re-release in theatres on its 35th anniversary on August 23, fans couldn’t keep their calm. While the Gen-Z are excited to experience the film on the big screen for the first time, millennials are ready to be washed over by a wave of nostalgia. Speaking exclusively to News18 Showsha, Bhagyashree said that she’s ‘beyond thrilled’ with the anticipation of how the film will impact today’s generation. “To think that a whole new generation will experience the magic of Maine Pyar Kiya onscreen is just incredible! It’s a timeless love story and to have it connect with young hearts today is like watching the film come alive again. I’m eager to see how Gen-Z resonates with the pure, simple romance we portrayed,” she said.
