Shefali Shah attended News18’s She Shakti event on Monday in New Delhi when she opened up about crime against women in society. The actress, who played the role of a cop in the hit series Delhi Crime, shared that she feels ‘helpless and hopeless’ whenever she reads about brutality against women in our society.
“I just feel helpless and hopeless. I don’t even know what to make of it. I am not even angry anymore, which is worse. When you are feeling something at least there is some kind of emotion but I just feel, ‘How do you correct this?’ I might sound very pessimistic but I don’t really know if we can completely eradicate this kind of toxicity from our country or this world,” Shefali said.
“These are the only cases that came out and are highlighted by the press. Every day there is something. It is not about brutality. You do not count it as how many scratches a woman had. The damage is done. I feel really helpless and hopeless,” the actress added.
“It is not one person’s problem to solve. I think there are far more equipped people to think about what can be done. But I have always said this – our daughters will be safe if our sons are raised right. I genuinely believe it,” she concluded.
Shefali Shah’s words come at a time when the MeToo movement in the Malayalam film industry has jolted the nation. It all started after the findings of the Justice Hema Committee Report were made public. As of now, FIRs have been registered against several film personalities including Mukesh, Siddique, Jayasurya, Edavela Babu, Maniyan Pillai Raju, directors Ranjith, V. K. Prakash, production executives Vichu and Noble after women actresses registered complaints.
On the work front, Shefali Shah was last in Alia Bhatt’s Darlings.
