The makers recently released the trailer for Thalaivettiyaan Paalayam, the Tamil adaptation of Panchayat. Directed by Naga, known for his work in Marmadesam and Ramany vs Ramany, this comedy-drama is set to premiere on September 20. The preview features Abishek portraying Sidharth, a young engineering graduate from Chennai who is assigned as the Panchayat Secretary of Thalaivettiyaan Paalayam, a remote village. Though reluctant at first, he eventually takes up the post, only to find out that the village is far from modernised.
In the trailer, we see Siddharth, a young man who grudgingly accepts the role of Panchayat Secretary in the secluded village of Thalaivettiyaan Paalayam. As he transitions to life in the village, it becomes apparent that the region is quite underdeveloped. While the Panchayat is headed by a female chairperson, her husband is the real decision-maker behind the scenes.
Siddharth’s encounters with the couple reveal his frustration with the lack of entertainment and social interaction in the isolated village. The trailer hints at various humourous situations that unfold as Siddharth navigates village life, highlighting the quirky relationships and moments that define rural existence. It teases a tale full of emotions like ambition, empathy and jealousy, all set against a backdrop of rural power plays.
“The comedy-drama series follows Sidharth (Abishek Kumar), an engineering graduate from Chennai, who reluctantly takes on a job far outside his comfort zone as a secretary in the remote village of Thalaivettiyaan Paalayam. As he navigates the quirks of rural life and its eccentric villagers, he finds himself caught up in a comedy of errors full of twists and turns," reads the official synopsis.
Produced by The Viral Fever (TVF), the eight-episode series features Abishek Kumar, Chetan Kadambi, Devadarshini, Niyathi, Anand Sami and Paul Raj in key roles. It will be available for streaming in Tamil with English subtitles. Naga, the director of Thalaivettiyaan Paalayam, has previously directed Marmadesam and Ramany vs Ramany.
While discussing the upcoming drama with PTI, Vijay Koshy, President of The Viral Fever said, “It has been wonderful to partner with Prime Video to present the Tamil Original series Thalaivettiyaan Paalayam. The entire team has done a fantastic job of authentically capturing the simplicity and sometimes challenging aspects of everyday life in a small rural village, with humour and authenticity."
