The first trailer for season 4 of The Umbrella Academy has been released. The forthcoming season, which is scheduled to debut on August 8, will continue where the previous one left off, featuring the Hargreeves siblings navigating a whole new realm without their powers. When a superhero lacks superpowers, what good is he? We’ll find out as the Hargreeves siblings leave their normal lives to prepare to join forces for the final time.
Europe’s 1986 song The Final Countdown is the theme music for the trailer. The siblings in Netflix’s popular comic book adaptation realise the value of their family ties despite navigating this new timeline with their typical chaos and squabbling.
There are also shots showing Ben Hargreeves (Justin H. Min) utilising his tentacles and Viktor Hargreeves (Elliot Page) wielding an orange light despite losing their powers.
“We drive each other crazy," says Viktor. “But when things go to hell, they’re there for me."
The clip begins with season 1 lines from Reginald Hagreeves (Colm Feore), indicating that the final season will possess deep ties to the series’ inception, and may even come full circle in certain aspects.
Drawing inspiration from the popular comic novel series penned by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá, the beloved show centres on a family of adopted siblings possessing superpowers who strive to avert the doom of the planet.
The Netflix series follows eccentric millionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves, who forms a superhero team after gathering unusual children with powers who were born at the same time throughout the world.
The six children are ultimately numbered by Feore’s Hargreeves, with Aidan Gallagher’s number five emerging as an arguably dominant figure.
With a variety of superpowers, the siblings make an effort to protect the planet from various dangers. At the beginning of the previous season, a group of superheroes were racing against time to save their planet; in the end, they were unsuccessful, but not before Five was successful in saving his siblings.
The teaser for season 4 suggests that Reginald could be the antagonist the siblings must defeat on their last adventure. Reginald seems like an obvious choice for their final big enemy, given the amount of childhood trauma and misery that he inflicted on the siblings and the fact that many of them are still dealing with this history.
It’s confirmed by the visuals of Elliot and Ben using their talents that some of the siblings will get their powers back in the last season, however, it will be interesting to watch when and how this happens.
