Vidya Balan Lives Her 'Cherished Dream', Recreates MS Subbulakshmi's Iconic Looks
Vidya Balan dressed up as the legendary singer and paid her heartfelt tribute on MS Subbulakshmi's 108th birth anniversary.

In a special gesture on the occasion of the 108th birth anniversary of MS Subbulakshmi, a titan of the Carnatic school of music, Vidya Balan paid a photographic tribute to the late singer. The actress teamed up with costume designer Anu Parthasarathy to recreate the iconic styles of the Nightingale of India. Having captivated audiences with her ethereal voice, Subbulakshmi also made a significant contribution to Indian classical music. She was awarded with the prestigious Bharat Ratna. Honouring her legacy on this special day, Vidya Balan expressed her immense admiration for Subbulakshmi, as she somehow fulfilled the dream of portraying the late singer.

“On her 108th birth anniversary, I feel honoured and overjoyed to be able to pay a photographic tribute to “BHARAT RATNA” M.S.Subbulakshmi (M.S.Amma), famously referred to as The ‘Queen of Music’ by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and as the ‘Nightingale of India’ by Sarojini Naidu,” she wrote on Instagram.

According to the post, Vidya dressed up as MS Subbulakshmi in four different sarees that the latter wore and popularised during her time. “If the rich, vibrant, and unique sarees were one half of M.S.Amma’s appearance, the other half was the simple accessory ensemble, including the traditional kumkum and vibhuti on her forehead, the two distinctive nose pins on either side, and the mallipoo(jasmine) adorned kondai(bun),” she further added, describing the looks.

Continuing in the post, the Shakuntala Devi actress thanked a series of people, including Anu Parthasarathy for coming up with the idea and Sikkil Mala Chandrasekhar, a renowned flutist and the granddaughter-in-law of the legendary singer.

The video left fans highly impressed, as many took to the comment section and lauded Vidya’s respectful gesture. Celebrities like Neena Gupta, Sobhita Dhulipala, Dia Mirza and Ila Arun also praised the same. “Wow, you look so beautiful like her,” wrote Neena Gupta, while Dhulipala added, “This is simply fantastic!! Wow.”

On the work front, Vidya Balan was last seen in Do Aur Do Pyaar and is now gearing up for a series of releases. The actress has the much-awaited Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 in the pipeline.
