Vikrant Massey opened up about a schoolyard incident that transformed him. He recalled punching a boy in the jaw, only to discover the boy was epileptic. This revelation made Vikrant realise he could seriously hurt someone and led him to abandon violence. Speaking on the Prakhar Ke Pravachan podcast, Vikrant related his experience to his roles in Haseen Dillruba and its sequel, speaking of how his character, Rishu, struggles to control his own violent tendencies.
He said, “I’ll tell you my own life experience. I was doing karate in school, I became aggressive and started feeling invincible. During recess, I punched a boy in the jaw, without realising that he was epileptic.”
Vikrant saw the boy frothing and losing consciousness and was beaten up by the boy’s older brother. The actor was terrified the boy might die. “I saw this boy frothing in front of me and losing consciousness. His older brother came and whacked me left, right, and centre. All of this happened in a few seconds. I didn’t feel the pain of being beaten up by the brother because in that moment, I was afraid that the boy might die. I left it all, stopped doing karate, because I realised that I could kill someone. Unfortunately, after that, I would only get beaten up in fights because I never raised my hand again,” he recalled.
When asked if it was ‘unfortunate’ that he stopped fighting, Vikrant said that the memory of that boy’s condition was so vivid that he never hit anyone again. He reflected, “Fortunately, rather, I don’t know. Thankfully, rather, I never raised my hand on anybody again because the memory of that boy frothing at the mouth was still so sharp. I got into a few brawls because of friends after that, but I never raised my hand again, because I’m afraid that I can be triggered again.”
Vikrant Massey will be next seen in Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba on Netflix.
