Rajesh Khanna and Feroz Khan are two of the superstars of their time who have been a part of many evergreen movies. The duo have worked together in just a handful of films, where Rajesh Khanna played the lead. Feroz Khan was seen in the supporting roles. However, upon the release of the movie Safar, Rajesh Khanna was reportedly frustrated after Feroz Khan was lauded for his acting chops in the movie.
Rajesh Khanna debuted in 1966 with Aakhri Khat and in 1967, it was India’s first official entry to Academy Awards. Meanwhile, Feroz Khan’s maiden movie was Didi in 1960. But, it was not until 1965 that he delivered Oonche Log, which emerged to be a superhit movie of that year. Since the Mela actor gained fame and success after Rajesh Khanna, the Anand actor reportedly, did not consider him as his competitor.
Rajesh Khanna and Feroz Khan have worked together in four movies- Aurat, Safar, Ram Tere Kitne Nam and Khoon Aur Paani. However, after Safar, Feroz Khan’s acting skills were highly appreciated and lauded, which left Rajesh Khanna allegedly frustrated. The movie Safar was directed by Asit Sen and starred stalwarts like Rajesh Khanna, Feroz Khan, Sharmila Tagore, Ashok Kumar and many others. It was based on a Bengali author, Ashutosh Mukherjee’s novel. Safar was one of the 17th consecutive hits delivered by Rajesh Khanna between 1969 and 1971.
Rajesh Khanna was the protagonist and Feroz Khan was the supporting actor. But, after the movie hit the silver screens, the audience gave much love and praise to both the actors for their fine performances. After Aadmi Aur Insaan, Safar was the second movie starring Feroz Khan, who received the majority’s praise. However, if the reports are anything to go by, Rajesh Khanna was ‘angry’ that the Arzoo actor got equal attention and praise as him. Reportedly, Rajesh Khanna was already a superstar before Feroz Khan catapulted to fame, hence, he underestimated him and did not consider him (Feroz Khan) his competitor.
