Rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh has taken a dig at Spanish luxury fashion line Balenciaga after he spotted a photographer wearing an outfit from the brand. On Sunday, the rapper was leaving close friend and actress Sonakshi Sinha’s wedding reception when he called out the paparazzo for donning Balenciaga.
“What are you doing here wearing a Balenciaga outfit?” Honey Singh asked adding, “Balenciaga kabhi nahi pehanna. Google karna, ek controversy hai bahut gandi Balenciaga ke upar. Maine saare kapde jala diye Balenciaga ke (Never wear a Balenciaga outfit. Google the reason behind it. There is a very bad controversy around it. I have burned all my Balenciaga clothes. They are bad people.)”
He further said, “It is my best friend’s wedding, I am so happy. She got the best guy in Zaheer. I met him three years back. He is an awesome guy. And I hope he is going to keep her happy. Nahi toh hum dekh lenge usko”.
In 2022, Balenciaga was in the eye of a storm after two of its ad campaigns were accused of “sexualising children”. Following this, the luxury fashion house issued an apology. It also sued its production company, North Six Inc, for USD 25 million. A few pictures showed children posing with plush teddy bear bags with bondage-themed elements. In photos from another Balenciaga ad campaign, the company had photos that featured Supreme Court documents on a child pornography case. Later, the brand removed all the controversial photos and issued a detailed apology on Instagram.
While taking full responsibility for the photographs and ads showing children with bondage-themed bags, Balenciaga pushed part of the blame of the second ad on a “third party”, evidently North Six Inc. This particular photoshoot used court papers from the 2008 Supreme Court case, United States v Williams, as props.
