Emily Blunt has issued an apology over her old video of making an insensitive remark during one of her talk show appearances in 2012. It all unfolded when the Hollywood actress was promoting her film Looper at the Jonathan Ross Show in the UK. The 40-year-old was speaking about learning a Kansas accent for the movie when she recalled eating dinner at a local Chili’s restaurant. The Oppenheimer fame made a derogatory remark about the appearance of a restaurant server for which she feels “appalled" now. Emily claims her “jaw was on the floor" watching the resurfaced footage from 12 years ago.
In the clip, host Jonathan Ross interrupts her story at the mention of a Chili restaurant. “If you go to Chili’s you can see why so many of our American friends are enormous," he says. To which Emily responds, “Well the girl who was serving me was enormous," before continuing her story of how the employee recognized her during the visit. Addressing the old footage, the actress told People, “I’m appalled that I would say something so insensitive, hurtful, and unrelated to whatever story I was trying to tell on a talk show."
She recognised that her remark was upsetting even though she considered herself to be a person who wouldn’t dream of hurting anyone. “Whatever possessed me to say anything like this at that moment is unrecognizable to me or anything I stand for," she added. Emily also admitted, “I said it and I’m so sorry for any hurt caused. I was absolutely old enough to know better."
On the work front, Emily Blunt last shared the screen space with Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr, and Matt Damon in director Christopher Nolan’s first-ever biographical film Oppenheimer. The actress played the role of biologist Katherine who underwent three failed marriages before meeting physicist Robert Oppenheimer. Her character was a struggling mess of motherhood, who battled loneliness, dissatisfaction, and addiction in the film.
After Oppenheimer, Emily has numerous projects in the pipeline. She will be seen opposite Captain America fame Chris Evans in Pain Hustlers. She also has The Fall Guy alongside Ryan Gosling and IF with Ryan Reynolds.
