Javed Akhtar was criticising Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal at a recent event when he called out Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai song. The iconic Kalnayak song was picturised on Madhuri Dixit and Neena Gupta. It continues to be one of the most popular 1990s songs. Speaking at the Ajanta-Ellora International Film Festival (AIFF), the lyricist said that the problem is not the makers but the consumers and he urged the audience to consume content wisely.
“People started telling me, ‘Sir, what kind of songs are being made these days?’ Songs are created by 6-7 individuals. For Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai, one person wrote it, two people composed it, two girls danced to it, and one cameraman shot it,” he said, as reported by Indian Express.
“Yeh 8-10 log thodi problem hai. Problem yeh hai ki yeh gaana samaj mein superhit ho gaya tha. Yeh crore logon ko aacha laga tha. Yeh hume darr lagta hai. (Songs are created by 8-10 individuals. For Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai, one person wrote it, two people composed it, two girls danced to it, and one cameraman shot it. These 8-10 people are not a problem. The problem is that this song became a superhit and was liked by crores of people. This scares us,)” he added.
He added that audience also play a crucial role in the making of a content for they are the consumers and that blaming just the filmmakers for making such content isn’t wise. “Viewers should take responsibility for the films they choose to watch,” Akhtar said.
