Days after Nayanthara’s recent release Annapoorani was accused of hurting religious sentiments, it has now been removed from the OTT platform Netflix. As reported by India Today, Zee Studios, one of the producers of the film, has written to Vishwa Hindu Parishad stating that the movie will be removed from the platform until edited. Annapoorani, which hit theatres on December 1, was released on the OTT giant on December 29.
“We have no intentions as co-producers of the film to hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindus and Brahmins community and would like to hereby apologise for the inconvenience caused and hurt caused to the sentiments of the respective communities,” an excerpt from the film’s production house read.
For the unversed, just a few days back former Shiv Sena leader Ramesh Solanki filed a police complaint against the film alleging it hurts the ‘sentiments of the Hindu community.’ Taking to X, previously known as Twitter, Solanki accused the film of being ‘anti-Hindu’ and pointed out some controversial scenes, including one in which Lord Ram is said to be a ‘meat eater.’
Sharing a copy of his complaint, Solanki said, “I have filed a complaint against #AntiHinduZee and #AntiHinduNetflix. At a time when the whole world is rejoicing in anticipation of the Pran Pratishtha of Bhagwan Shri Ram Mandir, this anti-Hindu film Annapoorani has been released on Netflix, produced by Zee Studios, Naad Sstudios and Trident Arts.”
Solanki furged Mumbai Police and Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis to take necessary actions against the film. He also listed down the scenes that he found problematic and wrote, “1. A daughter of Hindu Poojari, offers Namaz to cook Biryani. 2. Love Jihad is promoted in this Film. 3. Farhan (Actor) persuades the actress to eat meat saying that Bhagwan Shri Ram was also a meat eater. @NetflixIndia and @ZeeStudios_ have deliberately made this film and released around the Pran Pratishtha to hurt Hindu sentiments.”
