Rashmika Mandanna's Deepfake Video: Sonnalli Seygall Calls It 'Very Scary', Says 'I Don't Feel Safe...'
Sonnalli Seygall speaks up on Rashmika Mandanna's viral deepfake video.

Just after a viral deepfake video that seems to depict Rashmika Mandanna entering an elevator emerged on social media, there’s been a widespread outcry about the misuse of technology and the absence of adequate legal safeguards. The ‘Animal’ actress herself disapproved of the video, stating, “I feel really hurt to share this and have to talk about the deepfake video of me being spread online. Something like this is honestly, extremely scary not only for me, but also for each one of us who today is vulnerable to so much harm because of how technology is being misused.”

After Amitabh Bachchan, Mrunal Thakur, Naga Chaitanya came out in support of the actress and called for legal action, Sonalli Seygall also spoke about the same and also recollected the time, when something similar had happened with her.

In an interview with India Today, the actress shared. “It has happened to me in the past but not in a video, in the form of pictures. And it was very, very scary then. Actually, my mom brought it to my notice and my mom is very gullible and at least at that point when it was also new, she did not understand. It really affected her. She said what are these pictures of yours? And I was like they are not really mom, they are morphed and. So it’s very sad. It’s scary and makes me angry. It’s completely illegal and just because they’re faceless people doing this does not make it okay by any standards.”

Speaking about Rashmika’s deepfake video, she stated, “Oh my God, it’s scary. Very, very scary. Of course, we have all seen it in the past with pictures, and that was always debatable, but this is so real to the point. I mean, it’s so illegal. Immediate action needs to be taken against this. As a girl, as a human being, I don’t feel safe because that means anything can be done with whatever is available online. So much of our lives is out there right on the Internet, whether it’s social media, Google, or our phones.”

Recently, even the woman from the original video reacted to the morphed clip. For the unversed, the woman in the original video is Zara Patel. She is a British influencer. The original video, which was later morphed with Rashmika Mandanna’s face, was shared on October 9. Reacting to the deepfake video, Zara said she is disturb with the turn of events and urged everyone to not believe everything they see on the internet.

“Hi all, it has come to my attention that someone created a deepfake video using my body and a popular Bollywood actress’s face. I had no involvement with the deepfake video and I’m deeply disturbed and upset by what is happening. I worry about the future of women and girls who now have to fear even more about putting themselves on social media. Please take a step back and fact-check what you see on the internet. Not everything on the internet is real,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories.
