South Korean actor Lee Sun Kyun was found dead in his car in the Seongbuk district of Seoul. Paramedics, responding to the scene, found him unresponsive. The actor, known for his role in Parasite, reportedly faced a drug abuse investigation just a day before his demise, prompting local authorities to suspect suicide at the age of 48. Numerous South Korean news agencies, including K-pop Herald, have confirmed Lee Sun Kyun’s passing. The statement read, “Actor Lee Sun-kyun has been found dead in a car near a park located in Jongno-gu in Seoul this morning, according to reports. Lee has been facing an investigation over suspected drug use.”
Born on March 2, 1975, Lee Sun-kyun achieved recognition for his performances in films like Helpless (2012), All About My Wife (2012), and A Hard Day (2014). Notably, he played a crucial role in Bong Joon-ho’s acclaimed film Parasite, earning him a Screen Actors Guild Award. His career trajectory included roles in various dramas, from Coffee Prince (2007) to My Mister (2018).
Initially starting in musical theatre, Lee transitioned to screen acting with breakthroughs in White Tower (2007) and Coffee Prince. Despite his popularity, he immersed himself in arthouse films to refine his craft. His contributions to dramas like Pasta (2010) and Golden Time (2012) solidified his status as a versatile leading man.
