51-Yr-Old Engineer Found Dead in Odisha, Third Russian to Die Mysteriously in a Fortnight
Sergey died 10 days after two Russian nationals were found dead within two days at a hotel in Odisha’s Rayagada district under mysterious circumstances

A 51-year-old Russian working as the chief engineer of a ship was found dead in Odisha on Tuesday. This is the third such incident in a fortnight, while the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is already probing the mysterious deaths of two other Russians, including a multi-millionaire in the state.

The Russian, identified as Milyakov Sergey, was found dead in a ship anchored at Paradip Port in the Jagatsinghpur district. He was the chief engineer of the vessel, ‘Aldana’, which was on its way to Mumbai from Chittagong Port in Bangladesh via Paradip.

Vessel ‘Aldana’ had 23 crew members including Sergey and was anchored 15 kilometres away from the dockyard in a restricted area when he was found dead in his ship chamber in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.

Paradip Marine police have started the investigation into the matter and said the cause of death could not be ascertained immediately.

Paradip Port Trust Chairman PL Haranand confirmed the death of the Russian engineer and said an investigation was underway.

The ship’s master first informed about Sergey’s death to the port authorities.

“This is an unfortunate incident that happened on Tuesday at 3 am. We received a message from the master of the vessel that the Russian chief Engineer has died and the shipping agents are doing all the required formalities. Our port officials have also gone there. The vessel is in anchorage. As per the protocol the formalities will be completed,” said Haranand.

A team headed by Paradip Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) has started an investigation into the matter.

As the ship was anchored away from the seashore, further investigation will be conducted after the body is recovered from the ship and an autopsy is conducted.

Police said the cause of death will be ascertained after the autopsy report comes.

“The Port Authority has informed the local police. We are investigating. After getting all the information, a decision will be taken regarding the Crime Branch investigation,” Odisha Police DG Sunil Bansal said.

MYSTERIOUS DEATHS OF RUSSIAN TOURISTS IN ODISHA

Sergey died 10 days after two Russian nationals were found dead within two days at a hotel in Odisha’s Rayagada district under mysterious circumstances.

Pavel Antov (65), a lawmaker in Russia, died after allegedly falling from a hotel’s third floor on December 24, while his friend Vladimir Bidenov (61) was found dead in his room on December 22. Both cases are being investigated by the Odisha Police.

Antov was in Odisha to celebrate his 65th birthday. The case of Pavel’s death has become even more mysterious with reports of him being a “Putin critic”, sparking murmurs of a hit-job as Russian President Vladimir Putin’s critics have died in similar ways in Russia in the past.

Vivekananda Sharma, superintendent of police, who is investigating Antov’s death, said the body was cremated on Monday with permission from his family.
