Delhi Capitals Set to Release Sarfaraz Khan, Manish Pandey Ahead of IPL 2024: Report

With an eye on the players’ mini-auction next month, all 10 Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises would be rolling out their retention list by November 26. The process of chopping and changing have already begun with Rajasthan Royals trading Devdutt Padikkal with Lucknow Super Giants’ Avesh Khan. And now, Delhi Capitals (DC) are set to release a few players from their squad before entering the auction in Dubai on December 19.

As reported by news agency IANS, DC would part ways with the likes of Sarfaraz Khan and Manish Pandey. At the same time, the future of star opener Prithvi Shaw is also uncertain with the franchise.

Sarfaraz, a domestic stalwart, hasn’t been able to leave a mark in the IPL. Last season, he scored just 53 runs in four games, averaging 13.25. Overall, he has played 50 matches played in career and has scored 585 runs at an average of 22.50 and a strike rate of 130.58 with one fifty to his name.

Pandey as well had a below-par season in the IPL 2023 for the Capitals, scoring 160 runs from ten matches at an average of 17.78. Known for being the first Indian to score a hundred in the IPL, the 34-year-old has scored 3808 runs from 170 IPL matches. The report further suggested that CSK might trade him in for the next season.

The return of Rishabh Pant

DC captain Rishabh Pant is likely to return after a year-long break. The wicketkeeper-batter survived a horrific car crash last year in December and the injuries kept him away from action so far. He has been rehabilitating at the national cricket academy in Bengaluru and is expected to make his comeback through IPL 2024.

Auctions in Dubai

The IPL auction for the 2024 season is scheduled to take place on December 19 and it would be interesting to see how all teams shape up ahead of another IPL season.

RR trades Padikkal with LSG’s Avesh

The Royals have traded [left-hand batter Devdutt Padikkal with LSG fast bowler Avesh Khan ahead of the 2024 edition.

Avesh has so far played 47 IPL matches and has 55 IPL wickets to his name. The right-arm pacer, who represented LSG in 22 matches & picked 26 wickets after joining the franchise in 2022.

On the other hand, Padikkal has played 57 IPL matches and scored 1521 runs, including a hundred and 9 half-centuries. After joining RR in 2022, he played 28 matches and scored 637 runs for the franchise.
