England and Afghanistan are set to clash in the 13th ODI of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. England are the defending champions, having won the last edition of the tournament at home in 2019. They had beaten back-to-back finalists New Zealand to win their first-ever ODI crown. England had a poor start to their title defence. They lost their World Cup opener to the Black Caps as Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra smashed centuries to secure a nine-wicket victory. The Englishmen bounced back in their next game beating Bangladesh by 137 runs. It was Dawid Malan who scored 140 runs in 107 balls to help establish a 364-run scoreline for England. Reece Topley scalped four wickets in the second innings to seal a dominant win.
The two teams will be going head-to-head at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on October 15. Afghanistan are currently on a poor run in ODIs. They lost back-to-back bilateral tours ahead of their World Cup campaign in India. In the tournament, Afghanistan conceded a six-wicket loss in their opener against Bangladesh. In the next game, the hosts India took the Afghans down as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli rained runs in Delhi to secure an eight-wicket win. With England as their upcoming opponents, Afghanistan have quite the challenge at their helm.
