Fearing severe cyclonic storm ‘Asani’, farmers from Krishnaganj in West Bengal are selling raw mangoes, not waiting for them to ripen.
The mango yield this year has been comparatively low owing to poor rainfall.
According to the farmers, if the crop is hit by the storm, it can no longer be sold. Usually, farmers sell mangoes at Rs 15-16, but if hit by a storm, they will not get even half the price.
According to a farmer, more than one type of mango is cultivated in Krishnaganj block. Among them, Himsagar and Langra are famous.
Fazli, Golapkhas and Amrapali mangoes are also cultivated. However, Himsagar and Langra mangoes are in demand.
