Meanwhile, Shubman Gill didn’t travel to Delhi as he continues to recover from an illness. The BCCI on Monday afternoon released a medical update on Gill’s health, confirming the youngster will miss the Afghanistan fixture as well.
“Team India batter Shubman Gill will not be travelling with the team to Delhi on 9th October 2023,” read the statement from the BCCI.
The 24-year-old will stay back in Chennai and remain under the supervision of the BCCI medical team. Gill missed India’s opening match of the World Cup against Australia on Sunday which they won by six wickets. Ishan Kishan opened in his place alongside captain Rohit Sharma.
