Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday addressed a women’s rally in West Bengal’s Barasat ahead of the International Women’s Day on March 8. He launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government and accused it of shielding the accused in the Sandeshkhali case and creating roadblocks for the Centre in implementing schemes.
Calling the women of Sandeshkhali, his parivar (family), Prime Minister Narendra Modi said whatever transpired in Sandeshkhali had brought shame to the nation, but the TMC government in the state was busy using its power to protect criminals, who tortured women.

Speaking at the women’s rally at Barasat in North 24 Parganas district, PM Modi accused the TMC government of shielding the accused in the Sandeshkhali case.
He said, “Under TMC’s rule, the women of this land have been tortured. Whatever happened in Sandeshkhali will put anyone to shame, but the TMC government does not care about your issues. TMC is putting efforts to protect the accused of the people of Bengal. The state has got a shock from the high court as well as the Supreme Court. TMC leaders have done atrocities on the women of the state. TMC has full confidence in their leader but not in the women of West Bengal.”
Connecting with the audience by making all important statements ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Prime Minister said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was committed to the cause of women’s empowerment and safety.
Referring to RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s ‘Modi has no children’ remark, he said, “They have started hurling abuses at me now. They are asking about my family. They’re saying I talk against ‘Parivarvad’ because I don’t have any family. These people want to know about my family. I want these ‘Parivarvadis’ to witness our gathering and understand that all the people present here are my family.”
