Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik has no plans to retire from the sport, and he still has ambitions for the T20 World Cup 2024. Malik last played for the Green Army back in 2021 in a T20I against Bangladesh. During a recent event, Malik revealed that he has plans to overtake Chris Gayle’s record.
The veteran expects a clearer role from Pakistan Cricket Board since he hasn’t played for the national team for a while now. Meanwhile, Gayle had scored 14562 runs in 463 matches, having scored 22 centuries, 88 fifties, with 1132 fours, and 1056 sixes.
Shoaib has scored 12688 runs in 515 games, he trails Gayle by 1874 runs but the 41-year-old has plans to over Gayle and smash around 200 runs in the shortest format.

“My goal is to score around 2000 runs to go past Chris Gayle to become the best player in T20 cricket. I am open to play but a clarity is needed. I am not playing cricket to represent Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup. I play the game because I enjoy it. There is no problem of fitness,” Malik said during a recent event.

Malik has been working with ASports as a cricket expert during the ongoing ODI World Cup, along with fellow former Pakistan greats Wasim Akram, Misbah-ul-Haq, and Moin Khan.
Shoaib insisted that he has been working on his fitness and it remains to be seen whether PCB will consider the middle-order batter back in the fold.

Babar Azam and Co. won their first two games in the tournament but then lost out four matches in a row which nearly jeopardised their chances of reaching the top four.
A win over New Zealand reignited hopes of reaching the semifinal but the Kiwis’ win over Sri Lanka left them favourites for the semifinal with Pakistan needing a massive 287-run win to reach the top four, however, they only lost the fixture against England and missed out on the semifinal berth.
