Chandigarh: As many as 900 aspirants on Thursday entered the fray for the Punjab Assembly election on the last day of filing nominations, taking the total number of contestants to 1880.
The scrutiny of nominations for 117 Assembly seats will take place on Friday and the last date of withdrawals is January 16.
Prominent among those in the fray were Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal from Lambi and Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh (Patiala City).
Their sons - Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal (Jalalabad) and Raninder (Samana) respectively - are also trying their luck at the hustings.
Another former Chief MInister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal is seeking re-election from Lehra.
The polling will take place on January 30 and results will be declared on March six.
