New Delhi: The BJP on Thursday chose to stay away from the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on 2G scam. Former Cabinet Secretary KM Chandrashekhar is expected to depose before the Joint Parliamentary Committee that is probing the 2G spectrum case on Thursday. He is likely to be questioned about the contentious Finance Ministry note that had laid the 2G mess at Finance Minister P Chidambaram's door.

Chandrashekhar is expected to tell the JPC that the note was solely the prerogative of the ministry then headed by Pranab Mukherjee and that he had no hand in it. The ministry though had said the note was prepared for the PMO at the cabinet secretariat's behest.

While the BJP has been pressing for calling Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chidamaram as witnesses, the Left parties and BSP have favoured summoning the Finance Minister alone. Chacko has virtually rejected demands for calling the Prime Minister before the Committee. The six BJP members of the JPC had stayed away from the last sitting of the panel on October 11 in protest against Chacko's refusal to finalise the list of witnesses and include the Prime Minister and Chidambaram in it.
