Advani challenges Cong in Uttarakhand
Says party is shirking debate on important issues, its leaders are not visiting state to avoid the electorate.

New Delhi: The Congress had not explained the reasons for inflation and its top leaders are avoiding the electorate in Uttarakhand, said BJP leader L K Advani on Saturday

"It appears that Congress is facing shortage of leaders to highlight their party's viewpoint on a variety of issues facing the country today," he said at an election rally in Pithoragarh.

Congress leaders were shirking a debate on inflation, terrorism and corruption. "Even the Prime Minister's scheduled visits (to Uttarakhand) are being cancelled on grounds of weather," Advani was quoted by PTI as saying.

Advani said Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who held a rally in New Tehri on Friday, did not speak about important issues but gave a speech on renaming Uttaranchal as Uttarakhand. "Did she give any explanation on inflation? I wonder," he said.

The Congress must explain why the prices of food items were rising in the country. "That how prices have surged to the present levels has not been explained so far," said the former deputy prime minister.
