New Delhi: The election office said that Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh was allowed to vote in the second phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections after he furnished his driving licence to prove his identity.

"Singh had shown his driving licence as identification document along with the credit card to cast his vote in Ghaziabad on Friday,” PTI quoted additional chief electoral officer Devesh Chaturvedi as saying.

Chaturvedi said a report was sought from the concerned presiding officer in the matter, which was received yesterday and sent to the Election Commission.

The report said Singh had shown his driving licence along with the credit card after which he was allowed to cast his vote, the election official said.

The second phase of voting for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly ended on Friday with a 46 per cent voter turnout of the 1.6 crore electorate.

Fifty-eight constituencies across 10 districts in western UP voted on Friday and 881 candidates were in the fray for the votes.

Minor scuffles were reported in Muzaffarnagar, but voting in the rest of the state was peaceful.
