Amidst the neck-and-neck fight between the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and Mahagathbandhan, both the alliances are leaving no stone unturned to overpower each other as far as high-tech electioneering is concerned.
In NDA, only BJP is using technology to campaign for its candidates while its allies Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP) are using traditional tools to woo the voters in their favour.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading the high-tech campaigning for the BJP in elections in the state. Party’s IT cell in Patna and Mumbai are working 24X7 to turn the election in favour of saffron party.
Team Modi is also trying to reduce the influence of caste factor through mobile and internet. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s campaign chief Prashant Kishore, who was heading BJP’s online propaganda cell during Lok Sabha election, is using the same tool for Mahagathbandhan this time.
In this assembly election, the number of voters between age group 18 to 39 is around 59% and they will play crucial role in making next government in the state.
BJP is using mobile as key weapon to reach remote areas. Just before the rally of Narendra Modi, mobile users in villages and remote area receive SMS, which reads: "PM Modi’s speech will start in a short while." Message also carries a number on which you can call and hear his speech live.
Rajkumar, a shop owner at Sonbarsa market in Mahua Road, Muzaffarpur who heard Modi’s speech on his mobile said, “Modiji was in Muzaffarpur to address a rally on October 30. I just made a call and heard the speech. There is no need to close the shop and visit the crowded rally venue now.”
However, he adds that the call is not free and one has to pay for it.
On the other hand, Nitish Kumar’s campaign in-charge Prashant Kumar is focussing on micro-level JDU activists and supporters.
In a chat with News18 team, Sakara Assembly seat’s JDU youth wing president Rajeev Kumar said, “Every day we receive a call from a landline number 0612-3021800. The callers asks questions like: How many voters did we meet today and how many have been convinced to vote for Mahagathbandhan or how many voters earlier wanted to vote for other parties and later were convinced to vote for Mahagathbandhan.”
“This kind of micromanagement helps party to get the accurate trend of voting and possible poll results after the voting,” he said.
Apart from such calls, members of both alliances are sending messages with new slogans to appeal them to vote for them.
