New Delhi: Congress on Monday hit out at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for not showing willingness to take action against people involved in the six rape cases which took place in the last 48 hours.
Senior Congress leader Jayanthi Natarajan said, "The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh although she is woman, she has not shown willingness to tackle these incidents, hardly any serious and swift action is taken by government, its major human right violation, its blot on civilize society and for democracy."
She alleged the ruling party to be responsible for the crimes in the state.
"People from the ruling party in UP are part of crime in the state. CM has not taken any action against the culprit. We demand action and to set right law and order problem in the state." Jayanthi said.
A 33-year-old woman was burnt alive after allegedly being raped in Etah district in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.
Earlier a Dalit minor from Kannauj was allegedly stabbed in the eye and left blind by two men when she resisted rape. Two policemen were suspended for delaying the filing of an FIR.
An 18-year-old Dalit girl was also allegedly raped at gunpoint by a man in Ranipur Beladi village. A case was registered and police are hunting for the accused.
In Gonda the body of a 14-year-old girl was found in the Karnal Ganj village late on Sunday. The girl who was missing for three days was found in a sugarcane farm. Her parents claim that she was raped and murdered. Two people accused in the case have been arrested.
"Mayawati may not have any moral authority to rule the state, if these incidents continue, when day after day atrocities against women are increasing in the state." Jayanthi said.
Praising Rahul Gandhi she said that Rahul has reached out to farmer's, Dalits and other section of society.
"Our Prime Minsiter is Manmohan Singh and he has done wonderful Job, Rahul Gandhi has brought the change in party to reaching out to farmer's Dalits and other section of society, he is youth icon and future leader of party and Country." Jayanthi said.
