Ahmedabad: The bail plea hearing of former Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah has been posted to August 2 which means Shah will be in jail at least till then.
However, the CBI has received permission to interrogate him in Sabarmati Jail between July 28 and 30. The CBI had moved court for permission to interrogate him at the Sabarmati Jail where Shah is now lodged.
Eminent lawyer Ram Jethmalani, appearing on behalf of Shah, opposed the CBI plea saying interrogation can be possible only after the CBI provides the defence a copy of the chargesheet. He also wanted the questioning to be recorded on video.
The CBI application was moved after its officials questioned former director general of Gujarat Police G C Raigar. Raigar was issued a notice by the CBI on Monday morning and then questioned in the fake encounter case of Sohrabuddin, his wife Kausar Bi and Tulsi Prajapati.
Shah was arrested by the CBI on Sunday and sent to 14-day judicial custody in connection with the 2005 staged killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh.
Before surrendering before the CBI, Shah addressed a press conference claiming that Rajasthan resident Sohrabuddin was a Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist and added that the Gujarat Police seized 46 AK-47s, 100 grenades and 100,000 rounds of ammunition from a well in his house.
Shah said while there has been 1,700 "encounters" all over India, only those which took place in Gujarat were now being investigated.
Raigar, who retired in 2007 and had investigated the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case, had a few days back denied that he was under any political pressure while he carried out the investigations. He said that investigating office VL Solanki never sought permission to interrogate Prajapati.
