New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court, alleging that the CBI inquiry against her is being conducted under political pressure.
She claims the case is being dragged on just to harass her. Mayawati says she is living alone and is unmarried and her income has no connection with the income of her family members as they file their own IT returns. Mayawati's assets came under scrutiny after she received gifts worth Rs 2.77 crore between 1998 and 2005.
The chief minister says the investigation is being carried out in the most illegal and arbitrary manner simply to harass and defame her.
Mayawati says, "the CBI has illegaly and under political pressure been continuing the DA case against me. The Income Tax department has given me a clean chit, in connection to my income and gifts received by me."
One Ashok Jain gave Mayawati gifts worth Rs 81 lakh (movable property) and Rs 62 lakh as immovable property which have been held as legal and bona fide by the IT authorities. Between 1998 and 2005 Mayawati received gifts amounting to Rs 2.77 crore.
