Lucknow: UP Chief Minister Mayawati has come out strongly against the Centre accusing it of delaying the division of the state. The Home Ministry had on Tuesday sent a letter to the UP government seeking clarifications on the chief minister’s proposal to split the state into four.
Speaking to reporters, Mayawati said: “We will give clarifications to each query sent by the Centre… The Centre is making it clear that it will first wait for the clarifications and then consider the proposal unconstitutional.”
She lashed out at the UPA government saying it did not respect the sentiments of the “people of UP”, adding: “Centre's letter suggests that it is trying to delay the matter. It shows they are not serious.”
She added that her government was “still hoping” the Centre would not disappoint UP.
