Congress chief ministerial candidate for Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh has launched an engagement campaign to connect with the voters. The campaign called 'Halke Vich Captain' will start from Jalalabad, the constituency of Shiromani Akali Dal leader and current Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal.
"Come share your problems with me and I assure you that I will set up a task force in the first 100 days of Congress government to solve them," the Captain, a retired Army officer, promised while announcing the programme in Chandigarh on Tuesday.
According to Prashant Kishor's Indian Political Action Committee, the aim is to ensure that Captain Singh spends one full day in each of Punjab's 117 Halkas (Assembly constituencies) and reach out to 2 crore people and establishing direct contact with 5 lakh voters.
The programme will also include a 'Lokan da Durbar' (people's court) to hear concerns of the common public.
The Congress is trying to uproot the 10-year-old SAD-BJP rule. Singh also targeted the state government for the poor state of affairs.
"Failures of SAD-BJP combine has brought Punjab to its knees with even the most basic necessities of people being left unfulfilled. Halke Vich Captain is my humble attempt at reaching out to people, understanding their problems first-hand and assuring them of a time-bound resolution," he said.
Congress leaders say a record of all complaints and concerns will be maintained and a receipt issued.
An IVRS in Captain Singh's voice will be sent within 72 hours of grievance submission along with an SMS confirmation. People can use the receipt number to check the status of their grievances online.
Those unable to attend the programme can also submit their problem online.
Apart from the common public, the programme will also see the local Congress workers in action. Over 1 lakh party workers in all Halkas will also speak on the issues and give their ideas on strengthening the local unit.
Kishor and IPAC members had earlier met all the Punjab Congress district president and Assembly Constituency in-charges. They were given the details of the programme and asked to ensure its success.
