Delhi: AAP likely to bring draft of Jan Lokpal Bill today
AAP had promised passage of the anti-graft bill on December 29 at a special session of the Assembly from the Ramlila Maidan.

New Delhi: The Delhi government is likely to bring out a draft of the proposed Jan Lokpal Bill on Thursday. It was one of the key promises made by the Aam Aadmi Party ahead of Delhi elections. After winning the confidence vote in Delhi Assembly, Kejriwal had termed the passage of the Jan Lokpal Bill as the "most important issue" on the agenda of his government.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the draft of Jan Lokpal Bill will be ready in a day or two. "I have spoken to the Chief Secretary, and by tomorrow or day after the Jan Lokpal Bill draft will be ready," Kejriwal said.

He said his government will bring the promised Jan Lokpal Bill by the first week of February. The government has formed a committee with the responsibility of drafting the Jan Lokpal Bill.

The committee is being headed by the Chief Secretary, while other members are secretaries of Urban Development, Law and Finance departments, besides senior advocate Rahul Mehra.

The committee also has the freedom to choose other officials for this purpose.

In its election manifesto, AAP had promised passage of the anti-graft bill on December 29 at a special session of the Assembly from the Ramlila Maidan.
