Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel on Thursday suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA OP Sharma for the entire winter session over his sexist remarks against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Alka Lamba.

This comes even as AAP demanded that Sharma should be sent to jail.

Earlier on Thursday, AAP women MLAs protested at the Delhi Assembly, demanding that the BJP MLA be disqualified for his remarks against Lamba. Women AAP MLAs even rushed to the well of the House.

The ruling party has submitted a written proposal to refer Sharma to the Ethics Committee.

However, Sharma remained defiant, reiterating that he had made no derogatory statement against the AAP leader.

AAP leader Somnath Bharti, who is infamous for his raid on African women, also attacked Sharma.

Speaking to CNN-IBN, the matter has been referred to ethics committee, adding that it was unfortunate that "the BJP which proclaims Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is protecting him".
