New Delhi: After External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, the Congress on Friday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being silent on former Indian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi controversy. The Congress intensified its attack by demanding answers from the Prime Minister and said he is sitting in a "Lalit Asana".
Senior Congress leaders have upped the ante against the Narendra Modi government with Jairam Ramesh saying, "We expect the PM to speak after the Yog Diwas- he is now sitting in a "Lalit Asana" where his ears, mouth and eyes are closed."
Since the controversy broke after Sushma admitted that she had no objection to Lalit Modi's request to travel out of UK for his wife's treatment, any high profile names have been revealed alleging a nexus between India's who's who and the cricket czar.
"Documents which have surfaced in public domain is not just a case of impropriety but an unholy nexus. There is an unholy nexus between Chota Modi and Bada Modi," said Ramesh.
Firm on its demand for resignations of both Sushma and Vasundhara, Ramesh said, "There is no way out for the PM and BJP now, but resignations of Sushma Swaraj and Vasundhara Raje. The Central government is caught in a trap of it's making and the only way it can save itself by getting the resignation of EAM & Rajasthan CM."
Even though the Centre and the Bharatiya Janata Party are strongly rallying behind the ministers and defending them, the opposition is in no mood to relent.
Addressing a press conference in the national capital, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi claimed that the authenticity of documents produced against the Rajasthan leader was not verified, adding that there was "no corruption and no impropriety" on the part of both Raje as well as Swaraj.
