Meanwhile, the BJP has demanded that the Prime Minister should clarify his Government's policy on Naxals.

New Delhi: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has snubbed United Progressive Alliance (UPA) ally Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee over her recent controversial rally at Lalgarh.

Reacting to the Opposition, which stepped up the heat over the presence of Maoists at Mamata's 'apolitical' rally, Chidambaram on Wednesday said that the Government won't encourage anyone who sides with the Naxals.

The Opposition, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), had lambasted Mamata for terming Naxal leader Azad's death as murder.

"Is it right to give publicity to Naxals or their ideology as recently done by a Cabinet Minister? " BJP member Ramdas Agarwal posed during Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha.

Though his party colleagues welcomed the poser, Chidambaram said, "The question has been framed in a general manner, therefore I would generally like to say that no one should support Maoists and the Government will not encourage anybody who does so."

The BJP also sought a clarification from the Prime Minister on the Centre’s policy on Naxals. The party also demanded why Mamata termed Azad's death as murder when the Government had already said that it was an encounter death.

BJP member Gopinath Munde demanded an enquiry into Azad's death.

Mamata's Monday rally at Lalgarh where she shared space with the PCPA leaders has rocked Parliament. Tuesday saw an aggressive BJP and the Left Front joining hands to target the Trinamool Congress and seeking to embarrass the Centre over the Railway Minister's alleged hobnobbing with Naxals.
