Bharatiya Janata Party party's patriarch LK Advani on Tuesday said he always cried when he got emotional. Thrice in his lifetime he was so overwhelmed that he had tears in his eyes, Advani told an audience listening with rapt attention at the central hall of Parliament.
"Today's event is a historic moment. It is for the first time that Modi has come to the central hall of Parliament," Advani said after he formally proposed the name of Modi for leader of BJP.
"I always wondered why do people cry? Then I came across a write-up in the Reader's Digest that described this as an emotional weakness in people. I have cried thrice in my life," Advani said.
"The day India got freedom from British rule," was the first time tears welled up in his eyes, Advani said. BJP veteran Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Advani were in Bangalore the day they were incarcerated during the Emergency in 1975. "The day the Emergency ended, I had tears in my eyes. And when I met and welcomed Narendra Modi, I cried," Advani said.
The BJP will always be grateful to Modi to help it come back to power, he said adding that this was a historic occasion.
