New Delhi: Congress MP Naveen Jindal has submitted his explanation on his support to khap panchayats (caste courts) to the Congress.

Jindal has submitted a written explanation to the Congress claiming that he was misquoted on the issue of supporting the khaps.

The MP says he is against honour killings and that he had only offered to take the khaps' memorandum to Centre. Congress party's Haryana in-charge Prithviraj Chavan had asked Jindal to explain why he attended a khap mahapanchayat at Kaithal.

Congress had on Wednesday sought an explanation the Kurukshetra MP for his reported remarks favouring the khap panchayats in Haryana and the praise he had

showered on the controversial extra constitutional bodies.

The explanation was sought after Jindal praised the works of the caste councils at a khap mahapanchayat at Kaithal in Haryana and extended support to their demand to amend the Hindu Marriage Act to prohibit same gotra (sub-caste) marriages.
