Judicial custody of Reddys extended till Oct 3
Reddys were arrested by CBI on September five in connection with illegal mining probe.

New Delhi: A CBI court on Monday extended judicial custody of former Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy and Obulapuram Mining Company managing director Srinivasa Reddy till October 3.

Both of them were on Monday produced before the special judge after six days of custodial interrogation by the CBI. The special court had sanctioned six days of custody on September 13.

After they were produced in the court at 10.30 am, the special judge sent them to judicial remand till October 3. They were later taken to Chanchalguda Central Prison here.

Both of them were arrested by the CBI at Bellary in Karnataka on September 5 in connection with illegal mining probe.

Earlier, a CBI team on September 17 seized gold jewellery worth about Rs two crore from bank lockers of Srinivasa Reddy, who was brought from Hyderabad for enquiries into his monetary transactions.

Srinivasa Reddy reportedly has six lockers in the private bank, of which four have so far been opened. The lockers have gold jewellery and other documents, sources said, but declined to share details of seizures.

They said Reddy had managed to open bank accounts in benami names with the help of the then bank manager, who is now posted in Bangalore. These accounts were used to transfer funds earned from illegal mining, they said.

The sources said one CBI team conducted searches on a rice mill owned by a close associate of Janardhana Reddy here while another conducted raids on his aides in Ananthapur, including his driver, and seized about Rs 20 lakh in cash.

Another CBI team also visited mining areas of OMC in the Karnataka-Andhra Pradesh border at Malpangudi, Pumpi and Vidlapura, they said.
