The controversial former Indian Premier League (IPL) chief, Lalit Modi, has fired a fresh salvo, claiming that he had met Congress president Sonia Gandhi's daughter Priyanka Gandhi and son-in-law Robert Vadra in London.
Taking to Twitter, the former IPL czar said that he had "run into Priyanka and Robert separately" in London. Lalit Modi said that he met the two "last year and the year before", adding that doubted if they reported about the meeting to anyone.
Accusing the Congress party of indulging in "witch hunt", the former IPL chief said that said that they "can call" him and he would tell them what he felt about them, adding that he would "mince no words".
Reacting to the charges, the Congress said that Priyanka and Vadra ran into Lalit Modi in a crowded restaurant, and seeing someone at a public place was no crime.
Addressing a press conference, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala said that it was attempt to divert attention from charges being faced by senior BJP leaders. He said, "The government must explain the link between the Badaa Modi and the Chhota Modi."
The series of tweets by Lalit Modi comes amid the continued offensive by the Congress against Narendra Mod government. The Congress has demanded swift action against Lalit Modi.
The party has even sought the resignations of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje for allegedly helping Lalit Modi in getting his travel papers and UK stay permit.
Targeting the NDA government, the Congress has raised questions on the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the controversy, saying he must take a stand on the issue, even as the government has come out in open to defend both Swaraj and Raje strongly.
Here's what Lalit Modi tweeted:
