A Jaipur-based landlord has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of not paying rent for its office space in the city. The owner claimed that the party had stopped paying rent from the month of November 2023. In January 2024, the party left the rented space. However, the outstanding rent was not paid. The landlord has claimed that the Arvind Kejriwal-led party has not yet paid its dues.
Piyush Dudi, who rented out his house located at a prominent place in the city to AAP, claimed that despite asking on various occasions, the party did paid its rent. The rent is pending since November 2023, he said.
The office space is around 8,000 square feet and was initially rented out to AAP in April 2021 for a monthly rent of Rs 2.25 lakh. Later, the rent was reduced to Rs 1.65 lakh.
“Even though the AAP vacated the premises in January 2024, they did not pay their dues. They stopped paying rent several months ago and my efforts to contact all the office-bearers have been futile. I have requested them several times to clear their dues. Since September, they became irregular with their rental payments. However, from November, the party stopped paying the rent altogether. Though the security amount has been adjusted, the arrear remains,” he said.
In response to the allegations, AAP state president Navin Paliwal said, “This matter is between the party and the owner and I will only talk to the owner regarding this. If you want any more details, you may talk to the owner.”
Paliwal added that AAP is working to increase its presence in Rajasthan beyond its established areas.
In the 2023 Rajasthan assembly elections, the AAP fielded 85 candidates but none of them managed to win a seat. The party got only 0.37 per cent vote share.
The AAP had earlier rented House Number 10 at Bhawani Singh Lane behind Sahakar Marg for its office space. It was spread over an area of around 8,000 square feet.
