Noida: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mulayam Singh Yadav, who had moved a vote of confidence in the UP Assembly, has won the motion with 223 votes.

Mulayam, who heads the coalition government in the state, had tabled the confidence motion in a surprise move at the last minute as the House prepared to vote on the motion of thanks on the Governor's address.

Earlier, the motion was carried on a voice vote but the Speaker ordered a division on demand by a member after the Chief Minister completed his reply to the address.
