Srinagar: Former Supreme Court Judge HS Bedi, who was appointed as head of the one-man enquiry commission to probe National Conference worker Syed Mohammad Yusuf Shah's death, is likely to begin his work from Wednesday.
Justice Bedi arrived Srinagar on Monday and the state government is expected to provide office for the commission by Tuesday, official sources said.
Jammu and Kashmir government had on November 19 appointed the former Chief Justice of Bombay High Court as the head of the one-member commission to probe the custodial death of 61-year-old Yusuf on September 29.
Yusuf, also known as Haji Yusuf, was arrested on September 28 for allegedly duping people of money promising them government jobs, MLC seats and ministerial berths, citing his proximity with top NC leadership. He died the next day while in custody of the crime branch of the state police.
Yusuf's death snowballed into a political controversy after he was summoned by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on September 28 to ascertain whether he was taking money from people on the pretext of getting them ministerial berths.
The commission has been asked to complete its probe within six weeks.
A simultaneous probe into the alleged criminal activities of the deceased will continue with the crime branch, officials said.
