New Delhi: As the UPA 2 grapples with the passage of major bills in Parliament, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has appealed to the political parties for a constructive session, two days before the monsoon session begins on Monday. "Looking forward to constructive session, lot of time has been wasted. Hope that all sections of house cooperate," said Prime Minster.
However, the opposition has still shown reservation on some bills. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wants a discussion on relaxation of FDI norms, Uttarakhand tragedy, rupee crisis, while Trinamool Congress wants it on fate of the small states after the Congress has given nod to separate Telangana. The Samajwadi Party too wants amendments on Food Ordinance to be moved.
"We would want the Parliament to debate on Uttarakhand tragedy, fall in rupee and the conflict between CBI and intelligence agencies that is a danger to our internal security," said Sushma Swaraj, Leader of Opposiotion in Lok Sabha.
An all party meet convened by the Speaker on Saturday for smooth functioning of Parliament has failed to reach any consensus on bills like insurance.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath, however, said that all political parties have stated that they want the House to function. He said they're willing to extend the session to beyond August 30 in case of unfinished business.
The UPA is keen to get the Food Security Ordinance and several economic reform bills passed in this session of Parliament after the last two sessions was not allowed to function smoothly by opposition.
