New Delhi: Delhi Police On Wednesday released Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi after he was detained for over an hour while trying to meet the kin of dead ex-serviceman Subedar Ram Kishan Grewal at Delhi's RML Hospital, Delhi's Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) chief Mukesh Kumar Meena said.
"Rahul Gandhi has been detained at Mandir Marg Police Station for 'disruption of duty' after he wasn't allowed to enter RML hospital to meet ex-serviceman Subedar Ram Kishan Grewal's family", Meena told reporters.
"No politician is allowed in the hospital and they were causing disturbances. Democracy doesn't mean creating obstruction. Leaders must also understand that hospital is not the place to hold any demonstrations," Meena said.
"Family members of Grewal were detained as well as they were contacting political leaders and holding demonstration here," Meena added.
Gandhi had gone to the hospital to meet the family members of Grewal after he committed suicide by consuming poison on Wednesday at Jantar Mantar over the delay in implementation of One Rank One Pension (OROP).
Infuriated Congress workers staged a protest outside Mandir Marg Police Station after Delhi Police detained Rahul Gandhi. Senior Congress leaders Randeep Surjewala and Kiran Choudhary were also detained by Delhi Police.

Reacting on the issue senior Congress leader and Raja Sabha member Ahmed Patel told reporters, "The way government is working since day 1 is anti-democratic, this is a well thought conspiracy to stop Rahul Gandhi wherever he goes."
Political slugfest began over the alleged suicide of ex-serviceman Subedar Ram Kishan Grewal in Delhi after Rahul and AAP leader Manish Sisodia were prevented from meeting Grewal’s kin at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML) on Wednesday.
After not being allowed to meet family of ex-serviceman in RML Hospital, a disgruntled Rahul said,” Naya Hindustan ban raha hai bhaiya… this is Modijis india, I am certain that I will meet Grewal's family”.
Speaking to CNN-News18 Rahul Gandhi said, "I was not allowed to visit Grewal's kin because of government's non-democratic mentality...OROP Must be implemented in a meaningful way to satisfy our ex-servicemen"
Earlier, Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia was detained by police at RML on Wednesday while speaking to the family of the retired soldier who committed suicide.

Earlier, highlighting the plight of ex-servicemen, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and called him a "liar".
In a series of Tweets, Kejriwal had expressed grief over the incident and asked the entire country to fight for the rights of Jawans.

Blaming Defence Minister Parrikar over Grewal's death, in a fresh video released on Twitter, Kejriwal on Wednesday said, "It is a matter of pity that for the past more than one year, ex-servicemen are protesting at New Delhi's Jantar Mantar for their right but Parrikar ignored it. Grewal sacrificed his life as mark of protest against government's lackadaisical attitude".
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi is "lying” about OROP implementation. If he implemented OROP then why did Grewal commit suicide? ...the BJP has betrayed the nation on OROP and surgical strike", said a miffed Kejriwal.
Ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal hailing from Haryana's Bhiwani district allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison on Wednesday at Jantar Mantar over the delay in OROP, Delhi Police said.
The 70-year-old ex-serviceman left a suicide note in which he said that he was taking this extreme step for the benefit of soldiers, sources told CNN-News18.
According to CNN-News18, Grewal was drawing Rs 23,000 as pension instead of Rs 28,000 and he had written a letter to the Home Ministry describing his plight but the government denies receiving any such letter.
Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday expressed his condolences over Grewal's death and asked for details regarding the incident from the department of ex-servicemen welfare.
The suicide comes two days after Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar in a veiled attack on Congress over One Rank One Pension (OROP) for soldiers, had said that Narendra Modi government was the first regime to implement this scheme unlike others who merely paid "lip service" to the issue.
One Rank One Pension (OROP), or "same pension, for same rank, for same length of service, irrespective of the date of retirement", has been a longstanding demand of the Indian armed forces and veterans.
Ex-servicemen had in January protested massively over the issue of One Rank One pension (OROP) moving from Jantar Mantar to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s residence whose Ministry, according to them, was responsible for the delay in OROP implementation.
The implementation of the one rank, one pension (OROP) for ex-Servicemen has been a perpetual source of discontent for the veterans’ community as their key objections have allegedly remained unaddressed.
